The most successful vocal group of the early rock and roll era is set to wow their fans and audience at the Widus Convention Center on September 11, 2013. The stage is set for the group behind phenomenal hits ?Only You?, ?Great Pretender? and ?Smoke Gets in Your Eyes?- The Platters.
Due to insistent demand, the World-Famous Platters will be coming back to the Philippines this September. The fastest-selling concert artists in Metro Manila have agreed to stage their show, Encore, at the Widus Convention Center at the Clark Freeport Zone on September 11.
On July 12, Steve O?Neal Productions represented by its President, Mr. Danee Samonte and Widus Resort and Casino?s General Manager, Mr. Alfred M. Reyes sealed the deal. Excitement over the concert filled the air as everyone in attendance recounted the group?s accomplishments over the past 60 years.
Put together by Herb Reed in 1953, The Platters boast of 400 recordings to date, selling over 200 million records. Over the years, they have received more than 230 awards and have performed in 91 countries. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. In 1998, they were received into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Shortly thereafter, their song ?Only You? and ?The Great Pretender? received Grammy Hall of Fame Awards in 1999 and 2002 respectively.
Their version of ?Smoke Gets in Your Eyes? was recorded in 1958. This is possibly the most famous version and became a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching #3 on the R & B charts in 1959. It stayed at the top of the UK charts for 5 weeks from February to March of the same year.
For several generations, these songs have left lasting memories. ENCORE, The World Famous Platters will bring those memories to the fore on September 11 at the Widus Convention Center in Clark.
